Shear modulus loss as damage indicator of structural integrity in bonded joints
نویسندگان
چکیده
Damage in single lap joints under shear load was assessed. Specimens were tested accordance with ASTM D1002-10(2019). Controls taken on adhesive and surface preparation, thickness, load-specimen alignment. Digital Image Correlation used to measure stresses over the adhesive, modulus variation percent of damage Results show losses against stress. Finally, early evolution determined up 10% rate later, increasing 70%-96%.

Damage Evolution in Composite Bonded Joints under Fatigue Loading
The fatigue behaviour of single lap bonded joints under fatigue loading was already investigated and a suitable life prediction model was presented and validated [1-2]. The model is based on the actual damage evolution under fatigue load: a crack initiation followed by its propagation up to a critical length [2, 3]. In the present paper the evolution of fatigue damage in single lap joints is ex...
متن کاملThermal Stress in Bonded Joints
This paper considers the stress distributions in bonded materials induced by differential expansion or contraction of these materials. The analytical approach is similar to the lap joint theories attributed to Volkersen and expanded by Goland and Reissner. Several simple and typical analytical models are presented to bring out the relative importance of dlrerent geometrical and material paramet...

متن کاملContinuum damage modelling of environmental degradation in joints bonded with EA9321 epoxy adhesive
A mesh independent continuum damage model has been proposed to predict the residual strength of adhesively bonded joints by introducing a displacement-based damage parameter into the constitutive equation of damaged materials. Joints bonded with a ductile adhesive EA9321 were studied for a range of environmental degradation. The moisture dependent damage parameter for EA9321 was calibrated usin...
متن کاملComputational Models of Adhesively Bonded Joints
Simulations using the Finite Element Method (FEM) play an increasingly important role in the design process of joints and fasteners in the aerospace industry. In order to utilize the potential of such adhesive bonding, there is an increasing need for effective and accurate computational methods. The geometry and the nature of an adhesive joint are, however, not so simple to describe effectively...
